FF/PM Nick Urbanik staffed the booth for Senior Resource Day held at the Zion Leisure Center, April 20, 2011 This is a buried fire hydrant, which is what we encounter when responding to a fire following a snow storm. Making sure your nearest hydrant is cleared makes our job much easier, and also helps us put your fire out quicker! Please help us out!
This a good example of how a cleared out hydrant should look. We can easily hook up to this and get more water on the fire rather than take time to have to dig to it. Some Zion and other Lake County firefighters also are trained to stabilize damaged structures so they are not a hazard for residents until proper repairs can be made. Here our members, with the help of a crew from the Newport Township Fire Dept, work to “shore up” the damaged building.
