Employment The City of Zion Fire and Rescue Department employs sworn full-time personnel. Paid on premise personnel may be utilized depending on the needs of the City and the department. Currently the Zion Fire and Rescue Department is not employing paid on premise personnel. Click Here to Download Our “How To Become A Firefighter” Brochure (.pdf) Full-Time The City of Zion Board of Fire and Police Commissioners conduct a testing process every two years to establish a list of qualified candidates for the position of a sworn full-time firefighter/paramedic. Candidates that successfully complete the testing process remain on the list until it expires. If a full-time position becomes available, the next individual on the list is contacted by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners to continue the process. Applications for full-time positions are taken when a posting is announced. Applicants must meet all of the requirements at time of application. Some of the requirements for full-time firefighter/paramedic position include what is listed below. Full details of all requirements will be made known at the time applications are distributed.- U.S. Citizenship
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License
- Valid CPAT (see details below)
- Minimum age at time of hire is 21, maximum age at time of application is 34
- Illinois EMT-P
- U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License Class B Non-CDL or other states equivalent (Wisconsin CDL) within 3 months of hire
- Valid CPAT or successful completion of Zion Fire and Rescue Department Fitness Assessment
- Illinois EMT-P with North Lake County EMS System approval
- Illinois OSFM Firefighter II/Basic or equivalent certification meeting Illinois OSFM Objectives for Firefighter Basic
